This class builds on Home Environments Class by exploring the music, dances,
and stories of other cultures: British, Amerindian, African-American, and
German. There is increased focus on reading and writing music, developing
ear training, playing instruments in ensemble work, and learning simple
choreographed dances. More melodic patterns
increase the vocabulary of musical phrases that can be recognized aurally
and visually, developing an understanding of musical notation as a
useful language. The class enhances cultural awareness, advances listening to music, vocal skills, and body movement, as well as music literacy, and
accentuates symbolic thinking, concentration, memory and self-
expression.
